She was twelve running and chasing him down the corridors , at the end of the run swearing never to forget eachother and to always be friends. Nowadays, they pass eachother in the corridors that are so familiar with their voices but, with their heads down like strangers , afraid to make a noise.
Nowadays, one subtly stares at the other without the other knowing. Maybe just maybe, both expect a wave or a single smile from the other side that could just hold the lamp post of friendship that once lit so brightly that it shone even in the darkest night but now at the brink of collapsing or has almost collapsed and it’s glass has almost shattered.
She no more knows his taste in girls, his priorities have changed. He no more looks the same. She can’t remember the exact moment when they stoppped sharing secrets. She can’t remember the exact moment when a slight breeze became capable of drifting them apart.
All she does know is , she does not know which is his favourite shirt anymore or the first 3 songs on his playlist. She just doesn’t.
She can’t remember the exact moment when things changed, if at all there was an exact moment.
But these days they pass eachother in the corridors and the 12 year old , she wonders , “what went wrong?”. And she …
…she just feels a pinch in her heart when she passes by him.
